Memo shows Toyota employees in Japan raised concerns

The Detroit News -- Toyota Motor Corp. turned over to Congress today a 3 1/2 -year-old memo written by employees in Japan raising questions about the company's safety record.

The Oct. 3, 2006, memo was requested by Rep. Ed Towns, D-N.Y., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee after it was first published by the Los Angeles Times.

"If senior Toyota officials ignored important safety concerns raised by their own employees, it calls into question Toyota's corporate priorities and its commitment to safety," Towns wrote Monday to Toyota's North American chief Yoshimi Inaba, giving them a noon deadline today to turn over the memo.

The Detroit News today obtained an English translation of the two-page memo.

Sounds like Toyota has not been concerned with its customers. That should be the first priority. I will be interested in the book about this whole Toyota mess when it comes out.

The ploy of Toyota corporation is to delay as long as possible to avoid paying sooner rather than later for their defective vehicles. Unfortunately its at the expense of the American consumer.

Sounds like a beverage company I know. They wanted to hear employee suggestions and then would say they were made by management.

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. Somebody forgot to read the "please destroy this memo" memo.

well i still think that overall the japanese car makers are more responsive to changing consumer needs/wants/desires however I guess they all try to minimize bad press and/or supress potentially damaging revelations but when they cross the line to a blatant disregard for safety than i guess they get what they deserve???

More troubles for Toyota, and the recent news of runaway cars makes me believe the problem is electrical, not mechanical.

The sad thing is that everyone believed that Toyota was above the petty greed which has consumed the American carmakers and prevented them from being a quality manufacturer.

Sounds like the bubble has burst. Toyota in on a slippery slope into doomsville. I'd hate to have a car with electronics for gas acceleration.

When do big corporations listen to their employees unless they strike?

This is proof positive of Toyota's neglect.Time to pay up.

Well if the Justice Department does not act in the matter, which appears to be very close to criminal negiligence, they are in league with Toyota.

If this additional piece of evidence from the company's own files does not cause a indictment, then the civil lawyers will eat them alive.

I hope they saved that 100 million they got from the floor map lie.

Good bye, Toyota!

It's amazing how much keeps coming out regarding Toyota. As the microscope increasingly magnifies Toyota's operation, more and more stories continue to come out and dig the hole deeper.
