'Diligently Seeking Lower Gas Prices'

CSP News -- Nearly half (45%) of U.S. households are diligently seeking lower gas prices, The Nielsen Co. has found. The economy has consumers looking for cost savings across the board, even as they revert to some pre-recession habits, it said.

"Although gas prices are not as high as they were in mid-2008, they have been edging up for some time and continue to impact how consumers shop and buy," said Todd Hale, senior vice president, Consumer & Shopper Insights, Nielsen. "Even though gas prices are reasonable relative to recent years, consumers continue to employ money-saving strategies, such as using coupons and gas purchase incentives, as means to deal with gas costs given overall economic concerns."

as long as it isn't what some people I know do... drive 10 miles out of their way to save 3 cents per gallon.

I look for the lowest price in my area when I need to buy gasoline. Thankfully in recent weeks the price of gasoline has fallen.

Given the lack of consistent profits in refining, why should anyone build a refinery?

Given how both Bush-43 and Obama have been trying to reduce consumption, no use of building a new refinery.

It can be said "no new refineries in 30 years" but during the period where refining was profitable they engaged in "debottlenecking" programs. They haven't built a new refinery, but they have expanded many of them!

There was a good bit of big money behind Bush-43.

Obama bought and paid for by the speculators? Give me a break.

Obama is the reason the last tank I bought was $2.39 and not $4.14 like it was under Bush-43.

You could say the same thing about Bush-43, selected President in 2000.

We can't save money by cutting the use of gas. The less we use the more the companies charge.

Agreed and good point Number43!

He promised during his campaign that he would reel-in speculation. WHY didn't he do it during the recent financial overhaul? (cause he's a freakin liar!)

Regardless of the overall price level, I always seek the lowest price along the routes I usually prowl. For me that usually means Kroger; they're usually very competitive with surrounding dealers, but I also get 10 cents a gallon off with my Kroger card/

Fortunately prices have been somewhat stable and the economy is slowly picking up - unless the GD GOP gets back in power. Then we are ALL shafted!!

Please use GasPrices in your local area to find the best and lower than average gas price near you. Do not purchase gas at stations that have higher than average pricing.

OBESE VEHICLE and SAFE are not equivalent any more. Of course, if your idea of a "safety feature" is pavement crushing weight, go buy a custom vehicle from Centiigon.

Sometimes I post the lowest (and other times the highest) prices I see because it is important information for those who care to buy at lower prices.

I find it amazing that some will continually buy at the highest price. It seems they do not care about the prices they pay.

========

I guess those who have money to burn do not care about what they pay for their fuel.

Is this what the "Trickel Down Theory" of tax reduction is about?

someone needs to slap this Nielsen guy for even daring think that gas prices are reasonable. for actually saying it he needs to be "drawn-and-quartered" in the town square.
if the government truely wants to help get the economy back on its feet its going to have to help instead of hurt, and the first place to help is instituting some kind of controlling measures on gas prices, and cut back on gas taxes. next to rent/mortgage, gasoline is the next largest expense the typical family has.
