U.S. gasoline demand up on holiday: MasterCard
Wednesday, March 26, 2008
Reuters -- NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. retail gasoline demand rose last week due to the Easter holiday, despite record-high gasoline prices for the second week in a row, MasterCard Advisors said Tuesday.

"You get a little pumping going into Easter," said Michael McNamara, vice president of MasterCard Advisors. "You tend to expect week-to-week increases this time of year anyway."

American motorists pumped an average of 9.299 million barrels per day in the week that ended March 21, 1.2 percent more than they had the previous week.

While Easter travel might not be as obligatory family travel as Thanksgiving, spring break travel responds to the call of the hormones with the annual migration to courtship mating grounds.

Ah, mamalian ethnobiology!

of all the people that drive 1.2 percent isnt that much, so it seems that people are cutting back but still not enough. maybe should reach at least 5-7%

The front part of this artical is very misleading. Using a 4 week average, year to year, we are .3% LESS gas used. And Easter was not at this time last year.

Of course a long weekend will cause an increase in week-to-week demand ... what was it last Easter though - that's the true measure.
